ExcerptNow here he was only three weeks later, subject to the very event his father had warned against. There was no going back. The pieces had been shaped over his lifetime, drawn from an infinite series of events that he had felt, seen, imagined, and all the inevitable probabilities of each. There was no way to track it all, nothing he could depend on to show him how it was he had arrived where he was.
